Our ‘skin’ is our body's outer layer, protecting us against heat, light, injury, and infection. It regulates body temperature and stores water and fat, which help you to maintain a healthy ‘glow’.
However, the skin is much more than just an outer layer, it is responsible for important functions like vitamin D creation to keep skin looking healthy and youthful.
What most people don’t realise though, is that skin absorbs much of what it comes in contact with and that your skin’s health depends on what you put ON your body as well as what you put INSIDE it.
Here are two simple and easy steps to improve your skin’s health.
Step 1: Bathe in filtered water
If you have sensitive skin like me (psoriasis) you will be much more susceptible to chlorine and notice the effects of harsh water much faster. I tend to get really dry skin that ends up resembling a reptile. Ewwwww, I know.
The chemicals that are in our treated town water affect everyone on a cellular level. Using a simple shower filter is an easy way to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals in bath and shower water effectively making it safer and ‘softer’.
Step 2: Drink filtered water
The skin is made up of approximately 64% water. Take a minute to let that sink in; skin is the LARGEST organ in the body and more than half of it is made up of water. As the weather conditions around Australia change and dry/humid atmospheric conditions take hold (most of the country) the skin dries out. Appearing lined, wrinkled, saggy and generally old. Hydrating the skin with purified and filtered water will immediately boost the moisture content and plump it up.
Most of us have heard all of our lives to aim to drink around 8 cups of water a day and whilst this may vary for some, it is a good ‘goal’ for each of us. If you don’t drink enough water all of the organs in your body will begin to suffer, including your skin. Drinking at least 2L of filtered and purified water over a 24 hour period is a fantastic way to start your journey to super supple skin.
